The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule is the full English name of the Positive and Negative Affect Schedule, a psychometric tool used to assess the extent of positive and negative emotions an individual experiences over the past month. Positive emotions refer to those that are pleasant, energetic and satisfying, such as excitement, pride, inspiration, etc. Negative emotions refer to unpleasant, painful and frustrating emotions such as fear, guilt, hostility, etc. The scale consists of 20 adjectives, with 5 options after each adjective, representing the intensity of emotional experience from utterly none to very high. The scale can be divided into two dimensions, namely the positive emotion score and the negative emotion score. The higher the positive emotions score, the more positive emotions an individual has experienced in the past month, and vice versa. The higher the negative emotions score, the more negative emotions an individual has experienced in the past month, and vice versa. This scale can be used to understand the individual’s emotional state and the relationship between emotions and factors such as mental health, life satisfaction, and coping methods.
