Welcome to take this impulsive personality trait test. This test uses the Barratt Impulsiveness Scale (BIS-11), also known as the Barratt Impulsive Personality Questionnaire. The Chinese version of this questionnaire was translated and revised by the Beijing Psychological Crisis Research and Intervention Center, and is designed to assess the impulsive personality characteristics of individuals.

Impulsive personality refers to personal characteristics that tend to lack control and planning in behavior and decision-making processes. People with this type often exhibit impulsive, reckless, and impatient behavior. The following are some characteristics of impulsive personality:

  1. Impulsive behavior: Impulsive personalities tend to act quickly without careful consideration. They may make decisions in the heat of emotion and ignore the possible consequences.

  2. Reckless decision-making: Impulsive personalities often tend to make hasty and reckless decisions, ignoring long-term benefits or potential risks. They may make decisions without adequate consideration, leading to regret or negative consequences.

  3. Lack of planning: Individuals with impulsive personality often lack detailed planning and organization. They may prefer to improvise rather than follow a pre-planned plan. This can lead to inefficiency and ineffective time management.

  4. Thrill-seeking: Impulsive personalities tend to seek excitement and novelty. They may be more interested in adventurous and exciting activities and may take risks in search of new excitement.

  5. Difficulty concentrating: People with impulsive personalities may have difficulty concentrating and are easily distracted. They may lose interest in tasks quickly and have difficulty sticking to a task.

  6. Mood swings: Individuals with impulsive personality often experience mood swings, and their mood changes are relatively drastic. They may make impulsive decisions when their emotions are high and become irritable or depressed when they are low.

  7. Impatience: People with an impulsive personality often lack patience and the ability to delay gratification. They may not tolerate waiting and tend to pursue instant gratification and quick results.

It should be noted that impulsivity, in moderation, may also have positive effects, such as drive, innovation, and decisiveness. However, when impulsivity is excessive or uncontrollable, it can lead to a range of problems, such as excessive debt, unstable relationships, health problems, and more.

The Impulsivity Scale has gone through 11 revisions since it was developed by Barrett in 1959. The BIS-11 version revised in 1995 by Jim H. Pat is currently widely used. This self-assessment scale helps us understand individual differences in behavior and thinking in different situations by assessing an individual’s impulsive behavior and thinking style.

We first translated the English version of the BIS-11 and revised and evaluated it 5 times to ensure that the translation results were in line with the original meaning of each subscale. On this basis, we modified some items to adapt to the local Chinese culture’s understanding of impulsivity. Subsequently, we conducted two pre-experiments and further modified some items of the questionnaire based on the results of the pre-experiments.

Everyone behaves and thinks differently in different situations. This scale is designed to test some of your behaviors and ways of thinking in specific situations. Please answer each question carefully based on your actual situation. Please note that there are no right or wrong answers, just choose the option that best suits you.

This test will help you understand your impulsive personality traits and provide some insight into how to better manage and understand your own behavior and thinking patterns. After completing the test, carefully read the test results and explanations, which will provide you with information about your individual’s impulsive characteristics.

Please make sure to test in a quiet, distraction-free environment. When answering questions, please answer based on your true feelings and experiences and do not cover up or exaggerate. Answer the question as quickly as possible; your first instinctive answer is often a more accurate reflection of your impulsive nature.

Thank you for participating in this test! We believe that through this scale, you will gain a deeper understanding of your own behavior and thinking patterns, providing a valuable reference for personal development and emotion management. Now, please start answering the following questions and choose the option that best suits your situation. Good luck with your testing!
