Holland’s Self-Directed Search is an assessment tool compiled by John Holland, an American career guidance expert, based on his extensive career counseling experience and his career type theory. This assessment has high accuracy and is widely used in guiding study, job hunting and job transition. John Holland is a professor of psychology at Johns Hopkins University and a famous career guidance expert in the United States. He proposed the vocational interest theory in 1959, which has broad social influence. It is believed that people’s personality type, interests and occupation are closely related. Interest is a huge driving force for people’s activities. Any occupation with occupational interest can improve people’s enthusiasm and encourage people to actively and happily engage in the occupation, and occupational interest and personality There is a high correlation between them. Holland believes that personality can be divided into six dimensions: research type (I), artistic type (A), social type (S), entrepreneurial type (E), traditional type (C), and realistic type (R). Each person’s personality is different. It is a combination of these six dimensions in varying degrees. - Realistic people like to use machines and tools to perform practical operations and solve real problems, such as mechanical engineers, farmers, technicians, etc. - Research-oriented people like to explore and discover knowledge, and have scientific thinking and analytical skills, such as scientists, engineers, doctors, etc. - Artistic people like to create and express their thoughts and feelings, such as artists, writers, musicians, etc. - Social people like to help others and care about human welfare and social progress, such as teachers, doctors, social workers, etc. - Entrepreneurial people like to lead and organize others and have business and management skills, such as entrepreneurs, managers, salespeople, etc. - Conventional people like to do things according to prescribed procedures and pay attention to details and order, such as accountants, librarians, administrative assistants, etc. These career types are not absolute, and a person may have multiple career interests, but one or two types are usually preferred. By understanding their own career interest types, people can better choose a career that suits them and gain greater satisfaction and fulfillment at work. Research on vocational interest tests can be traced back to the early 20th century, with Thorndike exploring the relationship between interests and abilities in 1912. In 1915, James developed a questionnaire about interests, marking the beginning of systematic research on interest tests. In 1927, Strong compiled the Strong Vocational Interest Questionnaire, which was the earliest vocational interest test. Kuder published the Kuder Hobby Questionnaire in 1939. In 1953, he compiled the Occupational Preference Scale and developed the Self-Directed Exploration (1969) based on it, based on which he proposed the theory of “matching personality traits and work environment” (1970). It is not difficult to see that before Holland’s vocational interest theory was proposed, vocational interest testing and individual analysis were isolated. Holland organically combined the two. Now that we have officially entered the question-answering session, please calm down and reflect on your past behaviors and habits, as well as how you would react to the situations in the question. Don’t deliberately think about the type of person you dream to be, and make decisions based on your heart, so that you can see your true inner thoughts. This psychological test questionnaire has a total of 90 questions. Each question is a statement. Please choose these statements based on your true situation.
