Teenager Character Disorder Screening Test|Standard Question 14 Behavior Scale

Teenager Character Disorder Screening Test|Standard Question 14 Behavior Scale

When a child grows up, if he frequently acts of aggression, lying, stealing, and sabotage, it may be more than just 'rebellion'. This assessment tool is based on the DSM-5 Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders and combined with the psychological development research of children and adolescents, and is used to initially screen adolescents for behavioral patterns of conduct disorders.

This questionnaire was originally designed to evaluate the behavioral performance of adolescents by parents or teachers. It uses a third-person description ('he/her') and is filled out by parents, teachers or caregivers. Based on real observations over the past 12 months, it helps to more objectively identify whether the child's problematic behavior is beyond the normal range.

If you are a teenager himself and want to use this questionnaire for self-evaluation, please replace all 'he/her' with 'me' when answering the questions and answer them based on your own actual situation.

【Self-evaluation instructions】--If you want to use this questionnaire for self-evaluation

For example: The title 'He/she has bullied or threatened others' should be understood as 'I have bullied or threatened others'.

If you think some questions are not applicable to self-evaluation, please try to answer them based on your true feelings.

This questionnaire is intended to help identify potential behavioral problems and is not a substitute for professional psychological diagnosis. If you have serious problems, please seek help from psychological experts in time.

What is a conduct disorder?

Conduct disorder is a behavioral disorder characterized by repeated violations of other people's basic rights and social norms . Common manifestations include:

  • Bullying others, fighting, using weapons
  • Deliberate destruction of other people's property or arson
  • Lie, steal, break into other people's places
  • Regardless of the rules, never go home at night, skip school

This disorder usually occurs in childhood or adolescence . If timely intervention is not done, the risk of developing antisocial personality disorder (ASPD) in adulthood is significantly increased.

Note : Please select the option that best matches the frequency of his behavior based on your observations of the teenager (or himself) in the past 12 months . Please try to judge based on facts rather than subjective impressions.

The test results do not equal diagnosis , but are only initial screening of behavioral risks, and need to be combined with clinical judgment; comprehensive evaluation can be carried out with tools such as the 'CBCL Children's Behavior Scale' , 'DSM-5 Diagnostic Questionnaire', and 'ADHD Behavior Observation Table' .

  • Conduct disorder is a 'mode of behavior' rather than a single event. Even a robbery cannot constitute a diagnosis and must be a continuous pattern;
  • Don’t replace understanding with the label of “bad kids”. What lies behind many behaviors are family neglect, emotional disorders, and traumatic experiences;
  • Scores are just references, and the dimension distribution is more important than the total score . Even if the score is not high, if you focus on aggressive behavior, you should pay great attention.

Applicable population for conduct disorder screening test

  • Parents are worried that their children will fight, lie, steal things, and be disobedient to discipline in school
  • The teacher observes that students have repeatedly violated regulations such as bullying, destruction, and absent from class.
  • Teenagers who have doubts about their behavior or experience abnormal behavior feedback from others hope to obtain reference opinions through self-tests.
  • Preliminary screening needs for teenagers before psychological counseling
  • Evaluation scenarios related to puberty rebellion, self-harm, and early crime risk
  • Teens themselves, especially those aged 10 to 18, want to know if there is potential problem with their behavior patterns.

Early identification + rational acceptance + scientific intervention are three key steps in facing the problem of character disorders. We do not deny children, but understand the psychological needs and painful signals behind their behavior.

If you are a parent/teacher/social worker/psychologist, this tool will help you take an important first step. This test cannot replace professional psychological assessment and is only used as a behavioral screening and early warning tool .

Why use 'other evaluation' instead of 'self-evaluation'?

Conduct disorder is a type of obstacle that is mainly based on explicit behavior. Many times, I do not think that my behavior is 'problematic', so self-evaluation may conceal the real situation. This is the key reason why professional diagnosis and psychological counseling tend to use 'other evaluation' rather than 'self-evaluation'.

Many adolescents with a tendency to behave may underestimate, deny, or fail to understand the severity of their behavior in their self-assessment. Therefore, the observation and filling in by informed caregivers (parents/teachers/social workers) can provide more authentic and diagnostic evidence of behavior.
